Design Review Committee Meeting Reports
June 6, 2007 Meeting Report.
The Hollin Hills Design Review Committee met on Wednesday June 6, 2007.
The following items were on the agenda:
1. 1929 Martha’s Road. Homeowner submitted a proposal for a shed to replace a metal shed currently in place. The committee reviewed the proposal and requested that the homeowner remove the cross-buck trim from the door and to not use a contrasting color for the remaining trim. The proposal received final approval with that modification, pending neighbor notification.
2. 1816 Drury Lane. Committee reviewed construction drawings for a two story master bedroom, a family room, carport and shed addition. The drawings incorporated design changes raised in the neighbor notification process. Neighbor notification has been completed. The proposal was given final approval and a permit will be issued. Committee member Suzanne McLees recused herself from the discussion.
3. 2215 Martha’s Road. The Committee reviewed a proposal for patios, fences, a sunroom and additional garden structures. Final approval was given for two patios, one with a freestanding trellis and fireplace, planters, a wood screen on the south side of the carport, and sunroom modifications, pending neighbor notification. The committee did not approve the proposed fences and masonry screen walls and will meet with the homeowner at the next DRC meeting to continue the review process.
4. 2307 Kimbro. The committee reviewed a proposal for a pergola and patio. The patio received administrative approval prior to the meeting. The committee asked that the ornamental round columns of the pergola be replaced with unornamented 6x6 posts. The homeowner agreed to cover the top of the trellis with an evergreen vine. Final approval was given pending neighbor notification.
5. 2105 Popkin’s Lane. Committee reviewed a proposal for a master bathroom addition. Final approval was given pending neighbor notification.
6. 2403 Brentwood Place. Committee reviewed a proposal to repair a rear wall damaged by marine clay by lowering the grade to reduce lateral pressure on the wall, rebuilding the brick wall with a lower sill height, relocating an exterior door, and installing taller ground floor windows. Final approval was given pending neighbor notification.
Other Business:
1. Due to vacation and travel schedules, the committee will not meet in July.
2. The committee reviewed the status of previously submitted projects.
3. The committee reviewed the status of one project which had been constructed without DRC approval. The committee will be meeting with the homeowner in question.
The next meeting will be Wednesday, August 1 at 7:30 pm at Hollin Meadows Elementary School (many thanks to Principal Jon Gates for his assistance for this summertime meeting).
Please note: All DRC applicants must submit applications at least seven days prior to the next scheduled DRC meeting in order to be placed on the agenda. This allows committee members an opportunity to review proposed projects in advance of the meeting. Hollin Hills Design Review Guidelines require that “The homeowner's adjacent (contiguous) neighbors and those directly across the street shall be notified by postcard or letter by the homeowner at least 3 days prior to the project's review by the DRC.”
